Video Transcript for Ultra-Fab Products Skid Wheels - Frame Mount - UF48-979021 Review

Today we're going to be taking a look at part number UF48-979021. This is the Ultra-Fab Steel Micro-Roller for Trailers and RVs. The unique roller is designed to weld onto the frame of your trailer or motor home. That's going to prevent tail dragging and digging in while back your rig up. It's made from a heavy duty steel construction. It's very strong, very durable, raw steel finish here on the welding bracket.

It is designed to be a weld on installation. Here on this side, you're going to have a grease fitting that way you can pump grease in here and it's going to lubricate that inner portion of that wheel. I'll show you that real quick. We're going to have a slot right here, so you pump grease into the fitting. It's going to run through here. It's going to come out and it's going to lubricate all inside here that way it makes for a really nice, smooth operation.

Then you've got the lock nut on the other side that you'll have to tighten down. When it comes to the overall dimensions, if we take a measurement from outer edge of the bracket to the outer edge of the bracket that's going to give us a measurement of about three inches. The diameter of the wheel is going to measure two inches. If we measure the width going straight across, outer edge to outer edge we're looking at about two inches. Then taking a look at the overall height, that's going to give us a measurement of about two and one quarter of an inch.

That's going to do it for today's review of part number UF48-979021. This is the Ultra-Fab Steel Micro-Roller for Trailers and RVs. .

Help prevent damage to your RV's undercarriage by welding this 2" diameter steel wheel onto your trailer or RV frame.

by:

I think these were definitely worth the cost. I have a rather steep driveway and knew I was running the risk of dragging the tail end of my brand new tilt deck trailer. So, before taking delivery I sketched up my idea for removable drag rollers and turned the dealer's fabricators loose to make it happen. They turned out better than I hoped and work like a champ. It might be a bit of a chore to get them on and off (no more than 5 mins/side), but was necessary to maintain the loading edge getting all the way to the ground.

by:

Overall I have to give this skid roller a low rating. However if I rate the parts individually I have better results. The bracket is excellent, 1/4" thick steel and the holes are just the right size not too big. The roller is also excellent. The internal bearing is slightly wider than the roller so you can tighten the bolt as much as you want and the roller will still turn. The bolt is very poor. The hole for the recessed grease zerk is too deep weakening the bolt head. The head broke off before the head and nut even shouldered up the the bracket. Also the bolt is either grade 2 or 5. My advice: If you purchase this roller, replace the bolt with 1/2" grade 8; however you will no longer be able to grease the roller.

Manufacturer is aware of the problems with the bolt and is correcting the problem. They offered to replace the bolt, but I have already made a new one.

Not what I was looking for, but a good alternative. I wanted a roller width of 8 inches or more, but this little product worked well to avoid any damage to my trailer and minimize damage to the asphalt driveway. A groove the width of each roller and less than 1/16 inch deep sure beats the gouge the frame rails left. I’m pushing a 3,800 pound trailer into its storage canopy, so I expected the little wheels would compact the asphalt.
Local welding shop installed the two wheels for $42. The roller assembly was removed prior to welding the bracket, paint applied when cool, and roller assembly installed. Grease the roller and you’re ready to drag on your driveway.
Though smaller than desired, for what it is, it’s an excellent product.

by:

Just what I needed for my low rear frame clearance. No more getting hung going in or out of my driveway. Priced right, shipped quick and free(over $50).
etrailer always helps me get the job done.
Not a single trailer shop in Houston had them in stock. Half of them didn’t know what I was talking about.

Works great. Keeps my bumper from dragging going in and out of my driveway.

by:

They hold up great well worth the money they are on the back of a 24k 36 ft flatbed trailer with a dovetail that drags on almost all driveways I put 4 across the back and they get used a lot and hold up to the weight

by:

Seem to be well built.

by:

This is exactly what I needed to keep my bass boat trailer from scraping when I go out my driveway!

by:

Very well-made product. It's compact, low-profile, has minimal impact on ground clearance, and will prevent the end of my 24' enclosed car trailer from dragging when traversing over sudden or excessive gradient changes which could cause damage. The weld-on installation adds an extra measure of security knowing that it won't vibrate loose and potentially fall off or shift and not provide the protection is was designed for. I highly recommend this product.

First trip paid for the product. Turning in to the hotel parking lot was a steep grade and voila, the wheels did their job perfectly. Buy them if you dont have them already.

by:

Drag and go!

by:

I was looking for some of these for my 24 foot trailer on the internet when I came across your site. I look at them on E-bay and amazon. You had the best price and free shipping that sold me. Now to get them welded on....

Work great ... very well made..Installed on 24 foot enclosed car hauler by pace

by:

Have been using this roller for one year. Very satisfied. Our drive is lower than the blacktop street in front of our drive so as the front of the truck and fifth wheel trailer went up and of course the rear of the trailer went down and would let the bottom of the rear hitch drag on the drive and leave rust marks. It doesn't put a lot of weight on the hitch and this roller welded to the bottom of the ball hitch works perfectly to keep the ball nut from dragging.

by:

no happy with this product center bolt snapped at zirk end upon installation with almost no torque on it is there an new bolt available. I have these on the back of my cargo trailer

We've been in contact with Ultra-Fab about the broken bolt and were coordinating with them on getting the hardware to you. We'll be in touch.

by:

Just had these welded to get up my steep driveway without scraping. They make a loud noise but no scraping or digging in to my asphalt driveway.

by:

A great product and, as always, great service from etrailer

by:

One year later this is still a great product! Every time I park our 5-Wheel in our driveway they come into play by preventing the bicycle hitch from dragging. Prior to having them installed I was concerned about dragging anytime I left the primary driving surface. No more! Total cost for the drag wheels plus installation was about $$...a bargain for just peace of mind.

by:

We are very happy with these skid wheels. We welded them to the bottom of the drag bars on our camper and they have performed as expected.

Still working great.

by:

Not having this product my trailer got dragged on a parking lot apron. The structure below my back ramp door rolled out locking the hinge up on the ramp door. The steel on the door also had to be replaced after we forced open the door. Huge job that I don't have to worry about doing again thanks to this product. Welded up painted and installed the wheels with grease in under a hour. Re skinning the back door, c channel replacement on the door, angle iron across the bottom of the trailer, new hinge and lights with new wiring 32 hours and $600.00 in steel.

by:

received exactly as described. Looks to be a great product !!
Very HEAVY duty. Can't wait to get them welded on and to get them scratched up instead of my trailer.

This product has saved the rear of my trailer, on more than 2 occasions. Great investment if you actually tow your trailer

by:

Great fit and price. Our boat trailer drags when pulling out of the driveway. Leaving gouges in the surface. With the weld on micro rollers, the trailer rides on them nice enough to keep the driveway surface and trailer from further damage.

by:

Great product as advertised. Arrived as promised. Welded them on and added a coat of paint. Ready to go. As simple as that.

by:

Just received Ultra Fab Mini Steel Roller. Have not had a chance to weld it on, but it looks like it is built to do the job of preventing my 5th wheel frame frame dragging as I pull out of my steep driveway. I like that it has a zerk fitting to lube the roller.

by:

I waited to post my review until I had some good use out of these wheels. I have a steep driveway and was dragging so much I needed 4low to get the boat parked in the driveway. Instead of spending thousands on a new drive I decided to try these out. They have worked great! Instead of dragging the trailer it now rolls in and out easily. I’ve also had a couple hard hits pulling out of gas stations and the wheels remained sturdy and still roll smoothly. Highly recommend.

by:

Have not installed it yet, but it looks well made. Has a hollow / side drilled bolt with a zerk fitting on the end for easy lube maintenance. Unfortunately the roller has rust on it right out of the package. I'm sure that will get worse quickly after it is installed under my vehicle. Once it's welded on and lubed I will have to shoot it with some black paint to try to prevent the continued rusting. Other than the rust it appears to be a good product at a reasonable price.

by:

My new enclosed car trailer has considerable overhang on the back and I wanted to protect the back crossmember from dragging in the event of having to maneuver steep approaches. I made a triangular 1/4" plate and welded the skid roller fixture to the plate, then bolted to the framework with five points of contact to spread the load. The two skid rollers are a perfect solution for protecting the rear crossmember from damage.

  • Skid Wheel Recommendation for Smaller Utility Trailer
For such a lightweight trailer you would instead want to go with the skid wheel part # UF48-979021 to mount on the frame of your trailer. These skid wheels will stop your trailer from dragging and are only 2 inches tall so they wouldn't significantly reduce your ground clearance. These will need to be welded on.

  • Ultra-Fab Skid Wheel Recommendation
I just spoke with our Ultra-Fab contact about the Steel Micro-Roller, part # UF48-979021. They told me that the bolts that they were experiencing problems with in the past have been replaced and all of the skid wheels we now offer have the newly designed bolts. They said these are up to the task and should cause no problem at all.

  • Recommended Skid Wheels for a 2017 Winnebago Fuse 24 RV
There are 2 styles of skid wheels that people install on their RVs - frame mount (which weld on) and bumper mount (which bolt around the bumper). For your 2017 Winnebago Fuse 24 I recommend going with a frame mount option. The Ultra-Fab Steel Micro-Roller for Trailers and RVs # UF48-979021 is what I recommend going with. They will need to be weld onto your frame (by a professional welder) and prevent damage to the undercarriage of your RV. The roller itself is 2 inches in diameter and...

  • Can Ultra Fab Skid Wheel be Used on 40 Foot RV
The Ultra-Fab steel roller # UF48-979021 doesn't have a weight capacity. It is almost solid steel, the bolt runs through the middle, so it can handle a significant amount of stress. But considering that your Winnebago is 43 feet long you might consider going with the larger model, # UF48-979023. It is 2-1/2 inches wide by 3 inches tall. Either way the more of them you use the less stress and weight each individual one has to handle.

Thank you for providing a photo diagram of your 5th wheel rear frame area where you are intending to install Ultra-Fab Steel Micro-Roller Skid Wheels # UF48-979021. The best location to weld on these rollers is at or just behind the point where the trailer's frame is making contact with the ground. You may benefit from adding some Ultra-Fab Steel Micro-Roller for Trailers # UF48-979021 as I typically see your Wesbar Tail Light 403075 being damaged from dragging on the ground. This tends to happen with trailers that sit low maneuvering onto a hill or curb. These can be welded on the back of the trailer near the tail lights to help prevent the tail lights from scraping on the ground. We do not have any guards that are the correct size for your light.

  • Can the Ultra-Fab Steel Micro-Roller be Installed on Featherlite Aluminum Trailer
The Ultra-Fab Steel Micro Roller # UF48-979021 has a steel bracket that is designed to be welded to the frame of the trailer. If your Featherlite trailer has an aluminum frame, welding the # UF48-979021 will be tricky. Aluminum has a much lower melting point than steel, so welding these two types of metals together is not easy. The best solution for welding the steel roller to an aluminum trailer frame is to take it to a qualified welder who is comfortable working with these two metals.

Since the bumper you plan to install the skid wheels on is 4 inch by 4 inch you will need to go with a weld on set of skid wheels like the # UF48-979023 or # UF48-979021 or the bolt-on type # UF48-979015 that includes 4-3/4-inch-long mounting bolts.
